New Zion Primitive Baptist Church began its long history of ministry in 1927 under the direction of Deacons *Ned Barnes, *Allen Littleton, and *Lloyd Penberton. * Reverend Richard Reed served as the first pastor.
 
Through many years, the following ministers have served as pastor:
*Reverend Richard Reed, * Reverend T.B. Bisbee, * Reverend Alex Harrison, * Elder R.H. Jackson, *Reverend R.L. Landers, and *Elder M.M. Gaines .
     For 37 years, until his demise in 1993, Elder Gaines served New Zion diligently. Under his leadership, the membership elected to build a new edifice and moved into the new sanctuary on March 17, 1985.
    As the church grew, faithful members served in organizing a Choir, Mothers Board, Usher Board, and Youth Advisory Board.
    The church has been under the pastorship of Elder F. R. Rush since 1994. The theme at the installation services for Elder Rush was " New Beginning, New Era, New Harvest."
        Under the leadership of Elder Rush, New Zion achieved many accomplished, including the following:
  • Established full service worship including Bible Study and Prayer Meetings
  • Procured a $50,000 grant from the State of Florida, Department of Juvenile Justice, to fund the Youth and Family Enchancement Church and Community Coalition
  • Implemented the M.M. Gaines Scholarship Program
  • Assisted in the implementation of  a summer enrichment program for children and youth affectionally know as, Camp Can Do
  • Started a Transportation Ministry to bring youth to church activities
  • Assisted in the implementation of the Children and Infant Ministry
  • Increased church membership
  • Established Annual Teacher & Veterans Recognation Programs
  • Instituted M.O.A.M. ( Men On A Mission), Youth Ministry, Communication and Marketing Ministry, Church School and Music Ministry for all ages, Food Services, Adult Bible Study, and the Education and Training Ministry

    In addition to New Zion activites, Elder Rush has served as a board member for various councils in the Tallahassee area. He currently serves as President of the Middle Florida-Georgia Primitive Baptist Church School, Elder Rush also currently serves as the First Vice President of the Florida State Primitive Baptist Convention. Elder Rush also provides Outreach Ministry to the elderly at Miracle Hill Convalescent Home.
